»Breath training? Who needs that? Breathing happens by itself anyway!«. This is a common reaction, when I tell people about my breath training work. True is, that there lies a world of difference between an ordinary breath of air and a deep and conscious one.We can inhale ten times the amount of air. The supply of oxygen to our brain, which is burning 80% of our total oxygen consume, increases correspondingly. Also the cleaning procedures of our lymphatic system can be more than ten times accelerated by the awareness of correct breathing. If we additionally look at the fact, that 70% of our bodily waste is being segregated through exhalation (in comparison: 10% digestive tract) it becomes pretty clear, why the way we breath significantly influences our complete metabolism and along with that, our whole being in general. Breath training is a powerful tool to change our current physical, emotional, mental and spiritual state, which for lack of elucidation, is strikingly underestimated by most people.
Often too little movement, too much sitting and uncomfortable clothes are already keeping us from breathing fully and deeply. Fear can take our breath away. We don't use the whole capacity of our lungs or miss to exhale completely. Often we don't dare to give space to our breath, and with that to ourselves. The deep link between breath, body and psyche is also colourfully mirrored in our colloquial language: »hold one's breath«, »breathless«, »my breath caught«, »it took my breath away« - all these metaphors represent stress, fear, shock or panic, but there is also »take a deep breath«, »breathtaking«, »a moment to catch one's breath«.
Our breath is the only metabolic function, which is working permanently on its own and may be willingly controlled at the same time. This predestines it to improve our health and much more: We can use it to gain wellness, relaxation and peacefulness as well as energy, power, stamina and even trance and euphoria. It comes back to our hands, how we feel, and how we take care for ourselves.
In the breath training I am offering, we will for instance practice breathing into belly and chest, train our diaphragm, allow ourselves to yawn, learn relaxation exercises for the face muscles, synchronise breath and movement in many ways, breath into our chakras, deepen our breath through visualisation, or just watch it during meditation. We will practice the powerful yogic breathing exercise Khabalabati as well as the yogic flip breathing, and we'll let our breath flow while sounding.
